Illustrator's image tracing works best with black and white images. If you have a larger image you'll get more detail. But I got a good result from the image you posted.

Attached file is in dwg format.

Thank u for the reply Jesus .. but what if image has more shades of grey ?? can some sort of culling pattern of imagesampler's points can be outlined..??? proxyity 2d maybe ??

What David said. Give it a try with Inkscape, it's free (and bloat-free).

It' called Tracing. Several vector graphic programs (such as Illustrator or Xara) have this functionality build in. It is not however easy and results are often not very accurate either.

Incidentally, if you need it, why not buy it?

I didn't mean to be that image in particular Sir David . Are there any ways achieving it ghx alone ?

ok now precision is not a consideration :P .

Very difficult. You could get a very bad representation by importing the image and creating a mesh heightmap out of the greyscale values. Then you could slice that heighmap and get polylines. But for an image with as much detail as the one you posted you'd need a very high resolution which would slow down the process significantly.

In this example I use 1000 x 1000 samples and it takes about 15 seconds.

And when you zoom in you see that the detail is pretty wobbly.

hallo david, is it possible to post the grasshopper file, i am not able to produce it ...

thx in advance!

hello david, Im having trouble finding all the components, I don't use images for the components, is there any way you can post the words on the definitions.

Also on the Z vector you added an expression, what does this do?

Thank you so much.  Im trying to trace some shadows.

Sergio

Thank u Sir David and Jesus.

Yeah David please post that definition... I tried something similar which, if I fiddle with the sliders, sometimes gives me points that I can draw lines through, but in most case just gets me frustrated waiting for the model to update and then gives me some points I can draw a line through and a load of points that I can't.
