Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

After some long trial and error, I got this to work. I saw someone else had done it but didn't post anything on how to do it. I frequently use this site so I thought I would give back a little.

You will need GH version 8.0050, Geco plugin, EcoTect and there is a bug with the definition at leas ton my end.You will get an error saying that something is missing.

Where it says in the definition you have to add "ADD MESH ATTRIBUTES".

There should be a sketch of where to plug everything in.

Then turn the link to false, then to true, to get Ecotect running. Then beneath that toggle true to false to true again on the "Export Mesh" to get the results.

then toggle the preview off for "Add Mesh Attributes" to see the openings.

Voila!

Would be grateful if whoever used this posted a new file with it working for solar path tracking as well.

You will also need the MESH EDIT TOOLS also found at the geco download site

You will also need to relocate the weather File path

I was wondering, did you make the cuts manually in Rhino?

I've been having trouble with the Intersect function grasshopper.

No they were made native from grasshopper. Its a recursive setup where GH feeds ecotect and then back. Funny you should mention it because I was teaching the other day and noticed the intersect in GH was acting strangley with the new release. It may be that.

Im giving a workshop where I am going to show this, I just got back into it and will check into it. Stay tuned

Hi :)

MAN THIS IS AWESOME THANK YOU FOR SHARING :). Ive been searching for this for ages, i have no idea how to make it by myself :D.

Does anyone have any idea how to connect this galapagos so the windows could be optimized for solar insolation and daylight?

That was the intent of this. So you have it working?????? I know there were some issues with it over the years of version upgrades.

I honestly have wanted to plug this to Galapagos for quite some time but never got around to it.

If you get it up a running please share!!!!!

It worked just one time.... strange ?!

Afterwards it didnt trimmed the windows from the surface, it just showed the curves (the outline) of the windows...

Im sending the files, however they are the exact same definiton as Ive downloaded...

To get it working, you hav eto download many plug-ins... kangaroo also i think...not sure. You'll se from the missing files.

Thanks a lot  Craig Forneris for the great work. I have the same problem like aleksmkd . It just shows the curves of the windows on the surface without trim! any help please!

I opened the files and did what you mentioned in your text, but somehow it doesn't look like it should be. Big squares appear, and there are no gaps in the surface. I don't know how this happened? And what can I do about it?

Thanks Craig Forneris for sharing the wonderful idea, but do you know why it still show windows on the surface without trim?
