algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hello,
I am hoping to generate some Gamma Analysis "tree diagrams" for some research I am conducting, and am wondering if Spiderweb may be the best way to accomplish this.
I am interested in either generating these from floor plans, or from manually drawing spatial relationships and connections from an axial map. I also hope to get numerical data, such as RRA and Mean Depth. Does this sound manageable?
I have limited Grasshopper experience, but this seems as though it would be more manageable than trying to obtain older Space Syntax software (i.e. Axman or Netbox).
It would be much appreciated if someone could point me in the right direction, or possibly provide me with a related example.
Thank you!

Hallo Edward,
First I would like to know why not using Depthmap? Secondly I would like you to point you to the SpaceSyntax plugin. It might be that this is the quicker way for you.
However, with SpiderWeb you can do these kind of things, but you have to build it up from scratch. Meaning: SpiderWeb will provide simple algorithms such as a BreathFirstSearch (topological) or SingelSorceShortestPath Problem (metric / angular). With these you can calculate e.g. the MeanDepth, RRA, Choice,...
There are some Samples from a Workshop in 2012(http://www.gbl.tuwien.ac.at/Archiv/digital.html?name=AAG2012). Form the example files you will need the BFS example. Unfortunately it is in an old Version of SpiderWeb (3.2) which you still can download. (http://www.gbl.tuwien.ac.at/Archiv/digital.html?name=SpiderWeb_3.2). If you like to do it for small samples this will do, but if you have big drawing it will be very slow. Maybe you can manage to update the files by yourself.
If you know how to code (VB, C#) this might be the best way to do it. There is a example of how to use SpiderWeb in .NET script nodes within Grasshopper (http://www.gbl.tuwien.ac.at/_docs/GrasshopperScriptum/GrasshopperSc...) and there is a reference of the library (http://www.gbl.tuwien.ac.at/_docs/SpiderWebLibraryDoc/index.html), more or less complete.
Hope that helps.
Richard,
Thank you for the quick response!
I have not been using Depthmap because as far as I could tell, the software wouldn't allow me to create Gamma Diagrams. Is that not correct? I know I could create axial maps in Depthmap, but would I be able to export data from which I could get RRA, Mean Depth, etc. and generate Gamma "Tree Diagrams" from?
"Space Syntax" looked very interesting to me, but from what I saw about the program, it looked as though it was more or less the reverse process of Spiderweb, where it is used to generate spatial relationships, not analyze existing ones. Perhaps I will look into it further as it seems to output the data I need in a convenient way.
Thank you!
Hi Richard, I'm back... I've been using D
