Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi, I have created a spiral through looking at sunflowers. From that I have created a mesh and exploded the faces, so they are all indepent.

I am trying to simulate the photo of the model attached. Rotating the faces through an axis using a graph mapper, so the spiral will rotate onto each other.

I am having trouble getting the faces to rotate indepently at the moment the whole this is roting as one mesh. I have tried adding another rotation axis and this causes a clash. It is not "crumpling".

Does anyone have suggestions on how to do this? Your help would be really appreciated

Hi Jessica,

I don't understand how you want to fold this thing. Even from the model i can't figure out how you pretend the rotating of the faces.

I've cleaned up the script a little bit and created the pattern to sort the faces in a nice way. This will help controlling the rotation later.

Take a look at it now and maybe you can explain how the rotation should work.

Thank you so much for having a look.

The script looks so much cleaner. The rotation happens on each edge of the mesh faces. However all the edge lengths need to stay the same.  Similar to folding paper / origami.

I have a physical model, which I am trying to simulate. Attached are photos. May explain how I want the surface to rotace.

The first is the model flat. like simulated in the Grasshopper model, Then folded in half, creates a rotation to allow the planar surface to become more 3d.

Hope that helps explain what I am trying to do.

Thank you so much for you help! :)
