flatten and graft difficulties

hi all,

im trying to loft a list of lines and squares using the perp planes to get square pipes. without loft or graft it looks like a web with the surfaces going everywhere between all the lines but when flattened/grafted in different combinations i get all of the new surfaces going through each plane and extending beyond the limits of the rails ive selected or i get nothing. I think i just need a new set of eyes if anybody as a minute to look at it. I am posting pics showing what i just described as well as my def. note that int he def the portion in question is to the upper left of the document.

sorry its huge. if you make a couple lines and insert them into a parameter at the lines button it will work the same. i was using a point mapping system that used all the other stuff just lines back is what is in progress now.
