failed to get topography data from opentopography.org

Hi, I have a question about the terrain generator. I cannot get topography data from opentopography.org, which never happened before. Please let me know if anybody had the same issue or knows how to fix it!

below is the error I get:

1. This component requires topography data to be downloaded from opentopography.org as a prerequisite for creating a terrain. It has just failed to do that. Try the following two fixes:

1) Sometimes due to large number of requests, the component fails to download the topography data even if opentopography.org website and their services are up and running.
In this case, wait a couple of seconds and try reruning the component.

2) opentopography.org website could be up and running, but their terrain service (RESTful Web service) may be down (this already happened before).
Try again in a couple of hours.

If each of two mentioned advices fails, open a new topic about this issue on: www.grasshopper3d.com/group/gismo/forum.

Hello Chloe,

In attached file, there is an old version of 'Terrain Generator' component.

Since May 2021, Terrain Generator component requires an APIkey.
You can get one for free, by following this short video tutorial 1 (click on ‘Download’ button to download the video file).

Once you obtain the APIkey, download the newest Terrain Generator component 1 from here.
Once you download the newest component, right click on it and - Unblock it.
Then delete the old component from folder:
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Grasshopper\UserObjectsAnother way to delete it right click directly on the 'Terrain Generator' component in Gismo tab and choose 'Delete User object'.
And paste the newly downloaded one.
This will enable to drag the new Terrain Generator from the ‘Gismo’ tab. Replace your old component int the definition with this newly dragged one.
Also be sure to download and use the latest generate terrain .gh example file.
