Grasshopper is mainly for parametric, why use it instead of Rhino or whatever 3d modeler ? So it is better to come with idea of what you want, what will be your variables (size, shapes, curvature radius...). 

But Grasshopper is fun to use, so if you want to progress read and make primer examples
