Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

It seem so basic but i've been bashing my head with this one. I have created a definition for parametric IPE profile but i cannot extrude it along spline (it works as extrude linear & extrude along vector). If someone could check this out & explain some more... any solution would be much appreciated.

Hi, that might not be the answer you are looking for, but there's a cool blog called geometrygym, where Jon Mirtschin offer some interesting tools that if I didn't ge it wrong he has developed (and is still doing it, I think). There some structural pluguins for rhino to link rhino and structural analisys software. You can choose from a quite long list of profiles and sweep them along any curve. It has lots of other usefull stuff. You will find it here.

yes, i know about geometrygym and also use his structural draw tools... but i wanna do this inside GH, if it's possible!? Been also playing w/ Cinema4D and there's a 3step parametric procedure for doing this, as it already has parametric profiles in splines menu. So you select profile, create rail (or two) & sweep it along... and everything is still staying parametric for further use. That is what i want to achieve with GH. I wanna create parametric profile presets and then use them as i please... and share w/ everyone 'cause it really is very useful.
Seems like you found a solution entirely within Grasshopper which is great. From the other active thread about other plug-ins interacting with Grasshopper, I'm keen to develop the link where a lot of the routines I've created could become components in Grasshopper. The routines I've already written are parametric (in that you can bulk update a section property applied to curves/layers anytime later on in the process), and that the can handle profile orientation (and be calculated from the position of the curve mid point relating to a Rhino surface). I'm about to post a blog entry or two to better explain how these work with an example or two.

orient should do it. you can take planar profiles and orient them to a curve and then loft them or sweep them.
I have it working. Ill post the code shortly. You needed to join your curves so that the could be swept as one unit.

Awesome manuel. It is good to see the many ways things can get done within grasshopper. You have your solution in two ways :)
nice to know that i've missed such a basic one as join curves, it only shows that i have still much too learn about GH geometry.

nice solutions although Manuel's had a glitch - profile's starting point needs to be manually placed at the start/end of the sweeping curve to work properly (is OK if, in definition, curve's end point is selected as a starting point for a profile)

Hi, I am new in GH and this was very usefull to me, but it is possible to extrude, sweep or loft along polyline any curve. I mean I want to start with circle and end with rectangle. Thanks
