Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey Guys,

I am a beginner with grasshopper and rhino and am using the exoskeleton to form a voronoi pattern around a finger. The exoskeleton001 works if the data isn't flattened but then it makes multiple meshes, if i flatten the data the exoskeleton doesnt work as well.

I read that these problems are fixed in the new exoskeleton program but it keeps giving the error "1. Solution exception:Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

Can someone give me some tips?

Cheers, Kasper

Hi Kasper. The problem here is almost certainly that you have a few very short struts. Exoskeleton breaks when the minimum node size required to manage all of the different angles of struts coming in is bigger than one or more of the struts themselves (so the node, in order to work geometrically, "engulfs" the entire strut). This is a geometric problem...the only resolution is to ensure that both the struts are long enough, the nodes are small enough, and the angles between struts in a given node aren't too small...and this can be a tricky thing to do in larger curve networks (I would check the line lengths, and sort them to see just how small the smallest ones are). I also would suggest that you try out Daniel Piker's Topologizer. Here you can set a tolerance for minimum strut size, which will help you clean up your network.
