EPWindowShades error in v0.0.60 Aug_10 release

Dear All,

At the outset, i would like to congratulate all the team members of GH+HB+LB for their great work! Thank you very much!!

Here i am posting my first encounter with Honeybee error:

I have created a EPWindowShades in the newer version of HB (v0.0.60 Aug_10) and i found the ShadeBrep has been created. However, HBObjWshades reports an error/warning of "Empty Generic Data parameter. Interestingly it works well in the previous version of HB+LB.

I would appreciate any help from an expert user.

Hi Javed,

I assume Chris will get back to you with a better answer but meanwhile I can tell you why this is happening. If you check the readMe! output it reports that: HBObjWShades will not be generated. shadeBreps will still be produced and you can account for these shades using a 'Honeybee_EP Context Surfaces' component.

This is because the length of the shading is larger than 1. Based on the comment in the code the size larger than 1 meter makes EP crash and that's why the check happens however I'm not sure if that is true in this case. I assume the depth is the critical one which is already less than 1 m (.75).

Let's wait for Chris's input.

Ah, I just realized that there was something to be clarified in Mostapha's comment. Yes, the depth of the blind slats cannot be larger than 1 meter or else the EnergyPlus approximation for the behavior of blinds will not be accurate. You also cannot have a distanceFromGlass that is greater than 1 meter. For these cases, plug the generated shade breps into the context component as the components suggests.
