Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I would like to create a emergent behaviour definition based using unemployment rate of my city as an agent that could then be generated into architecture as the attractor...attached is an interesting example of emergent behaviour in nature

A couple thoughts. First have you looked into plugin Rabbit: http://morphocode.com/rabbit/ . The plugin allows one to play around with some 3d cellular automata as well as some L-systems. The next thing I would look into would be Kangaroo. You could think of your unemployment data as geographic points that have some kind of power law attraction or repulsion force based on distance from each other or some kind of global attractor. The biggest draw back of grasshopper though is the lack of flow control. So iterating through any kind of definition is inherently difficult.

Because I'm curious: Are you trying to create a model that is predictive or observational? Unemployment seems like a subject of so many variables that it would be hard to reduce it to some essential relationship to the built form. You might want to watch this video by Robert Sapolsky: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_ZuWbX-CyE . Seems right up your alley. Good luck!
