algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hello there!
I have a created a square grid and then a 3D grid (hidden in the screenshot) and then selected all the points that fall inside a brep (a pipe hidden in the screenshot).
Now I would like to know the distance between each of the selected points and its corresponding point in the 2D grid (on the same z ), any idea on how to solve it?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi Alice,
I believe you mean "on the same XY" instead of "on the same Z", right?
In any case, always upload your GH file, people shouldn't have to recreate what you have already done in order to help you.
Cheers, Nikos
Hi Nikos,
yeah you are right, it is the xy to be the same and here is the GH file, sorry for the incompleteness of my request!
Hi Alice,
The rhino file is also needed (it has the curve inside), or you must internalize all geometry inside the GH file.
Ok, nevermind, I just recreated with a random curve.
If you just want the distance (like: what is the length of the rope needed to hang these points), then you can use [deconstruct point] to get the z value for each point and subtract this from the Z value of the 2d grid (all points on the 2d grid have the same Z, it is the Z slider at the start of your definition).
edit:
I was wrong, it is actually this value here:
Ha Nikos, that was so easy! Thank you so much, I was totally going in a wrong direction, making my life very complicated!
Sorry for the missing curve, as clear by now I am quite new to grasshopper, this is the first real definition I work on =)
Thanks,
Alice

I know what you mean. I have re-invented the wheel many times with GH :)
good luck with your project!
Nikos
