Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello people!

i have attached images of a model that i have replicated in 3ds max but i can't seem to figure out a way to do it parametrically on grasshopper.any suggestions would be really helpful.

Regards!

Perhaps you should have a look at this section first.

thanks Hannes Löschke, but i think you are referring me to general tutorials section while i asked for guidance regarding a very specific problem, so, i think you didn't understand the question properly.

First let me say, I don't mean to offend you. I apologize, if I misjudged and you thoroughly read/viewed and recreated lots of tutorials in the past few months. Frankly, we see a lot of beginners with ambitious projects, but without a first clue about Grasshopper.

Looking at your photos I can see a set of quad surfaces connected to form a kind of band that folds and tapers over a space. This band is then copied and varied along a single dimension. I'd call this pretty generic.

Since there are two ways to interpret "parameterizing", let me dissect your question:

The first means finding parameters, that inform your general shape. Like a variable, that determines where and why the roof should be flatter or more slanted, how the width of a section is defined at a specific position... You don't give any hints on that and your photos don't help in that area too. So it's hard to help here with the information you give.

So you are probably referring to creating the variable geometry in the first place. Creating surfaces, manipulating points, scaling, rotating, moving. That's what you probably did in Max. Those very techniques are covered in almost any beginners tutorial for GH. If you know how to build it by hand, all you have to do is find the corresponding components and connect them. Most of those components will introduce an additional input that can be fixed or variable parameter. So... this is where I guessed, you didn't know how to find and work with some of the most basic elements of GH. I pointed you to the tutorials.

Umar,

Hannes is right...starting with some of the basic tutorials will help you "see" the MANY ways that the building you showed could be created in GH.

Following these tutorials may get you there quickest:

Dear Umar,

files *.3dm,*.3ds,*.dfx,*.dwg) may help overcome this difficulty against the light on the design and geometry of the elements.

with respect
Alex

thank you Alex, i'll try that.

regards.

Thanks aaron and hans, i'll try it and then bother you guys again if i have an issue.

been through digital tool box tutorials, took primer for granted, guess would have to go through it as well.

regards!
