Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi!this is my first post.
Yesterday i was trying to create a diagrid on a surface, with no success.I red a method on GHprimier II,but that is not what i was looking for.I want to obtain editable surfaces of the romboids of the diagrid.Hope you understand what i'm trying to say.
I searched on the web for definition or information (blog, websites),but nothing.Do i have to use a scripted code to do that?
thank you

Hi Paolo,

yes, if you want to only make lines, it is currently quite easy to make the diagrid within Gh using shift list logic. But if you want to actually make quads or polylines, then it is probably wiser and faster to use a script. See the one attached (both in C# and in VB.net).

Hope this helps,

Thank you very much Giulio!I understood relatively your definition, because i never used a script before!i hoped i could use only grashopper!Do you think that if i read the rhinoscript manual i'll be able to understand your def?if not,can you guess me a source where i can learn a lot about learning to script?
thank you very much again!

Paolo
Hi Paolo,

the Grasshopper primer second edition by Andrew Payne & Rajaa Issa, in the second part (from chapter 12) explains how to get started writing scripts in Grasshopper using VB.Net. There are nice examples which show loops, and therefore you will be able to write this sort of scripts, too.

The download page is here: http://www.liftarchitects.com/journal/2009/3/25/the-grasshopper-pri... . Also, you can always ask questions on the VB.NET and C# corner: http://grasshopper3d.ning.com/forum/categories/vb-and-c-corner/list... here on this group.

I hope this helps getting you started,

As i can see VB script component is a necessary tool for some kind of solutions.
So i will read that part!I will post pictures of my exercises as soon as possible!
Thank you very much again Giulio!

Hi Giulio,
Thanks a lot for this new version.
In the script you wrote expressions such as "OddCellsWrapped" or "TopTrisWrapped",
there is no declaration of these as variable at the beginning of the script.
Are they VB.net methods?
Many thanks,
Arthur
maybe look below in the zone 'additional types...'
Yes Arthur, as Luis said they are additional function calls (methods) you can find in the section in the end of the code.
Here is a deffinition one of my high school students did last summer. it divides the a surface into a grid pattern. I would take a look and see if it helps with giving you an idea on how to script a solution you were looking for.
This was scripted by Tyler. you can see more of our work at http://lyndenrhino.ning.com
Dave you said ''Here is a deffinition one of my high school students''.Did you want to post the dfinition file?
I took a look at the website...nice and interesting one!
Thank you for answering and helping me!

Paolo
Hi all,

Maybe you guys can help a novice user. Working through the tutorial 11.3 - surface diagrid and although I think I built the solution correctly it is only giving me diagonal pipes on one cell (see image). I posted the ghx file too.

Also, I am using version 0.5.0099 and I can't find the param/speical/parameter viewer. i am stupid or crazy or just blind?

thanks

Jason,

Please upgrade your GH installation to 0.6.0019 from here:
http://grasshopper3d.ning.com/forum/topics/grasshopper-060019-avail...

There are many significant changes between the two.
Thanks Sameer,

Will do so asap.

cheers,

jason
