data path with x variable on a point grid

Hi,

I am trying to create parametric steps for a stair section.

1- How can create the poly line shown in the attachment with hand drawing?

2-How can I make it stay the same even the U V count of the point grid changes?

(I think there should be a path with x variable which is connected to the UV count slider, but I am kind a new in this so need help)

Just one more thing; I need just the opposite direction, I mean the opposite diagonal. 

I tried but couldn't make it. :/

Thank you Igor, but I need it to work with a specific point grid which is parametrically bonded with other components of the rest of the model.
