Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

The "Planar" component which tests for planarity of surfaces does a poor job here : the curved surface is flagged as planar.

...and it still is the case in Rhino WIP with Grasshopper 1.0.0004

Anybody in here ?

Set I to False on the Planar component.

You clearly do a poor job with reading the component descriptions.

"Limit planarity test to interior of trimmed surface." isn't the clearest thing, if you're not familiar with it.

Nope : even the interior of this trimmed surface is not planar

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the idea.

I suppose there are even other smart ways to do it, but I sure would like this component to be reliable :)

Cheers,

Hi Mateusz,

Was that for me ?

"Test whether a surface is planar" : what am I supposed to understand ?

The interior of the surface is non-planar-ish here, also the definition of planarity changes together with the document unit tolerance. Other factor which could alter the test results is the shape of the opening (long and thin object).  There is no such thing like the proper planarity definition once you start messing with floating point error...

I guess the best option for you would be to get the brep wires, join them, select the one edge with the largest bounding box and then use the curve planarity test.

Hi Mateusz,

Non planar-ish ? Floating point error ? Shape of the opening ?

Come on, it's as flat as Kim Kardashian's rump !

This is just a bug.
