Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey guys,

I just started learning grasshopper and I have a quick question here.

I have a series of circles of varying radii and I need to divide them by the same length (which I am able to do) and then create curves by joining each two adjacent points on each circle. It's the second part that I haven't been able to do. Is there a definition in grasshopper that would let you just form continuous line segments through points on a curve?

The final product I want is something like a faceted line, i.e. a series of line segments that could be later, say, extended to form facade panels and so on.

Such a rookie question. Thank you for your help in advance!

Hi Jazzy,

why not fit a Polyline through the circle division points? You can always Explode the polyline afterwards if you want individual line segments.

Hi David,
Thank you so much for your reply! It surely is a good idea to fit a polyline through the points (and what definition would you use to do that? I'm a completely rookie here...) and then explode to get segments. the only thing is that I'd like to extend each of these individual line segments (vertically and tangentially) to become panels on a facade. It'd be quite bothersome if I have to do these in rhino, no?

Thank you so much! I appreciate your help!
Hi Jazzy,

double click somewhere in an empty spot on the canvas and type "Polyline" as a search term. You should get the Polyline component as the first hit. Do the same with "Explode".

Thank you David! You totally saved my life! It worked like a charm without having to explode. I was able to extend the line segments vertically to create panels. However, I was wondering if there's a way to extend the upper line segments towards the tangent direction of the original curved surface. I've attached a sketch, a early rendering of the project, and a screenshot of what I have right now.

Basically if you look at the section in the sketch, I want to be able to extend the lower panels vertically and the upper ones at different tangential directions. I noticed that the DivDist button has a tangent vectors export but when I connect that to the D of the Extrude button, nothing happened. Any thoughts?

Thank you so much for you help!!!!
