Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Am dealing with some offest problem and instead of trying to flip curve to obtain the right side of offset I was thinking to do both negative and positive offset, and then exclude the bigger in order to keep the one inside. I guess I have to use cull pattern, but I don't know how to link that with the area values of polilynes. Do I need a function?

has anyone faced a similar issue?

Thanks

Yes. Here it is, showing your and my suggestion. Both same effect. Just move the offset number slider.

For my next steps I don't like to be bound to the smallest surface. Have a look. Thanks.

Here's one way, using the Surface Split component and then the Containment component to identify the central area.

Hi

I have the same problem.

I have no idea how to control the direction of the 3d offset.

Attached you can find rhino file, GH definition and image with desired effect.

(It is a competition image for 300 cars public parking.)

I've tried first of Danny's definition but it didn't work.

Could you please save backwards to Rhino 4. Cheers

There you go.

Can't wait to see your solution ;-)

Your setup looks good. I guess, I didn't get the question.

If you leave the plane out of your offset component, world is set and the offset works like you want in both direction.

Instead setting the f(x) comp to -x you could use the negative comp. Connect either one and the result is to the inside or outside.

I guess, the Edge Srf Component doesn't know which lines it should take. You've set both plus and minus distances at the offset comp. Use either plus or minus and it'll work.

Is that it!? If not, please reformulate your question.

Hi

It works! Removing 'planar' components solved the problem.

Thanks for your effort.
