Creating thickness for surfaces that turn back upon themselves?

Examples: such as the Batwing family:

http://facstaff.susqu.edu/brakke/evolver/examples/periodic/periodic...

I can't give credit or find the original author of the attached script, nevertheless I
was experimenting unsuccessfully to create thickness using a WB comp with I added to the script.

It appears to me that the solution to adding thickness in this particular case would involve adding thickness to both sides of the geometry skin. Which I'm struggling with....Help would be appreciated!

I see I still have a lot to learn. I particularly like the addition of the Surface UV mesh component.  Thank you so much for your help Hyungsoo.

Wb Dual, where have you been all my life?
