Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi there.

I wonder if there is a way to create Poly-ngons (not Triangles) from closed polylines or vertices as an input. Something like the "boundary-surface" component would create only as a ngon mesh-face.

Cheers.

A couple of options: Rhino 6 WIP has Ngon meshes. In Rhino 5 you could use the half-edge mesh library Plankton. Or, keep a mapping of the polylines and discretised/constituent triangles/quads yourself (for reference, that's how we handled it here).

Hi Anders.

Thanks for your answer.

For the plankton-option: Could you give me an example for this kind of thing?

For the third option: I have to admit, I am not really sure what u are talking about/how this is working.

Mesh(+) has a component to create nGon meshes.

Hi Daniel.

I have tried the m+ ngonMesh before. It seems to produce a triangulated representation of a ngon Mesh. Or doesn't it work simply because I use Rhino 5 instead of Rhino 6 WIP?  I have the feeling Rhino itself can't work with ngons or am I mistaken?
