algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Trying to reproduce the mill surface in this great video:
http://www.grasshopper3d.com/video/gcode-writer-for-surface?xg_sour...
See the GH file attached. Used a 2D Gaussian function as this seems to be the closest to me.
Need to give credits to
http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/2d-contour-plot-and-zero-...
where I borrowed some code for plotting a 2D contour.
The NURBS surface I am getting seems weird as it's not smooth and open. Increase the factor A to 4 or so to see what I'm talking about.
Does someone know how to make the surface smooth?
Thanks

thanks. the surface now is smoother but still edgy on top:
Is this because Rhino renders it so coarsely, since Nurbs curves and surfaces should be smooth right?
I think my reproduction is still not equivalent to the mill surfaces used in this video
http://www.grasshopper3d.com/video/gcode-writer-for-surface?xg_sour...
as seen in the nodes on the edges of the surface. Their z-values is not 0.
Would you have an idea to come up with a more precise approximation generated parametrically?
Thanks!
The nurbs are smooth, it's the display meshes that are coarse. Once you bake the geometry you'll be able to use higher quality meshes that do a better job at approximating the surface.
