Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

I hope someone can help me out with this. I´ve been stuck on it for a few days now, but I just can´t figure it out (even though I have the feeling it will be pretty simple).

I have created a Helmholtz resonator in GH, and need to automatically get a surface that can be used to recreate it in different software (when you look at it from a 2D axisymmetric point of view). The Boundary Surfaces tool doesn't work, even though it should I guess, and I can't seem to wrap my head around why!

So, in short: the lines that are created in the group should together form a surface. Eventually the surface should be split up in two parts, but this is something I can do myself once I know how to create the surface in general.

File is attached, the problem is at the Group-part.

Thank you so much!

Grts,

Bettine

Hi Bettine,
if I understood correctly you'll want to join some curves into a single profile, then revolve it around the central axis:(D@rn, I forgot to attach the edited file... just a minute...)

the edited file :
(only edited the bit in the red group)

P.S. you said "small" but the definition looks rather intimidating...

Perfect! Thank you so much for your help!

Happy to help, I thought I'd show you a little bit cleaner approach too,
that also prevents this:

Hi Pieter,

You helped me a lot with your cleaner approach, but now I have to adjust my model so that it goes exactly the other side (in which case I would actually need it to be like the image you show here. Would there be an easy way to fix my file so that it is suitable for both cases? Added my file, plus two notes (inside the file). Hope you can help me to make it a bit more easy!

Thank you so much!

Hi Bettine,
I'm afraid I don't understand what the goal is... you have some contours that occupy the same space, and some partial contours too. Maybe you can create a complete model (or just the contours) in Rhino and post that, so I might understand what a valid result should consist of (because I'm not familiar with heimholtz resonators at all, and I don't now how many parts there should be).
What I did notice was that you ended up with some inside-out brep(s), and an invalid one. Also, are you sure you really want that zero thickness surface in there?
