Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I am working on a definition to create crystalline object and create patterning on the faces with the intent of laser cutting and fabrication. I am using the fab tolls unroll component to unroll and keep curves associated with each face. I am having a problem labeling each edge to allow for assembly. The current method I am exploring is to decompose each face and measure the length of each edge. I then have a list with each branch containing the face "id" and its associated edge lengths. I cant seem to find a way of finding the matching lengths and labeling them with an edge number.

Hi.

I'm not sure why are you looking for edge-length labeling, btw.. I've added  cut tab lines & edge labels using Fabtool. Best.

wow thank you for the help, you are a lifesaver. Is there a way i can associate the edge labels to the 3d for reference? We are distributing this to students and the assembly needs to be very straightforward.

I was not looking for edge length label, but rather just a way of labeling edges that need to be joined to create the shape. Just a number that corresponds between the edges. Is that possible with this logic? if so what needs to be changed?

Example: White dots would be edge index and black would be face index

Have you taken a look at this tutorial?  Unless there is a particular uniqueness to the way in which you are decomposing the object, this is a pretty straightforward method.  Starting at around 3:10 might be of particular interest.

The paneling tools unroll does not keep the curves on the surfaces, and with unroll edges it does not explode or label. Thanks fo the help, still looking

Get this as well.
