Connecting points with empty spaces in between

Hi, 

Im currently having trouble connecting a grid of points between each other to generate vertical lines: I have a grid of points with culled circular areas, and Im trying to generate straight vertical lines that take into consideration these spaces.

Im looking for result like this:
