Cleaning up polygon edges and loops

In some geospatial analysis programs there are tools to clean up polygons, but I haven't found an easy way to achieve these in grasshopper to create a more "parametric" workflow. There are two cases I'm trying to script:

One is cleaning up adjacent polygons so they coincide at their borders 

The other is splitting any "dounts" so there are no loops.

I have started with trying to mesh  the areas, but if anybody has better ideas they would be greatly appreciated.
