algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hey,
maybe mine approach would be helpful:
- if you need only cross sections with 1-3 classes, you can get the class from "Utilization" and then make "if" statement, so further in the optimalization only 1-3 classes will be an option (for Galapagos for example)
- if you need class 4 you can make your own calculations in Grasshopper. Personally I think making your own utilization calculations in Grasshopper is always better option, because using only Utilization component can make you overlook proper buckling length for element.
Best regards :)

Hey,
I think sorting out class 4 sections is the best approach for me.
Would you also consider making your own utilization of class 4 cross sections when you have a big grid-like structure.
I mean will it be possible to keep track of the effective areas for each member together with the different section-forces and orientations?
Kind regards
Silas
Hey,
Im no expert either, so it is going to be that way :)
Best regards
Silas
Hello Silas,
Karamba3D 1.3.1. does not calculate reduced effective cross section properties for class 4 sections. Thus one should stay with classes 1 to 3.
Best,
Clemens
Hey,
Thanks for the reply, I will stay in class 1 to 3.
Best,
Silas
