Note: this classic approach used in a simple case like yours is not panacea (depends on the point topology). There's other ways to sort points as well ranging from relatively simple to quite complex (if it's possible to sort them anyway).
Well ... it's not my idea (it's the classic way to sort items IF their locations ARE suitable). My ideas on that matter require coding (if the classic way fails: notify if you want a simple example on that [just a failure indication, NOT the solution]).
This solution suits me but if you have an example on that, I would like to see that (I'm curious)
