cell subdivision

hey guys
i have a  problem in subdividing a cell (red colour) in the manner i want. i wanted to subdivide the red cell in 3 parts vertically (if possible i shall be able to manipulate the horizontal division as well) and then from these subdivided cells, i want to choose the 1st and last one to further subdivide (purple line)..is there any direct way of doing this..
