Just to add I've also tried it on two different computers now, both running windows 7 64 bit.

Sarah, it would be helpful if you would attach the error message, or screenshot of it.

when I close this grasshopper appears but its empty (no tabs/commands/greyed out)

It seems a similar problem has already appeared some time ago.

You will have to wait for a response from David.

Hi Sarah,

All of the load errors that I've seen David give his attention to have been caused by an old version of Rhino5.

I would recommend checking your version info against what I have above.  This is from the 90 day -Evaluation Version which I understand to be the current version.

Indeed, that particular error means that a certain function on which Grasshopper relies does not exist in the Rhino SDK. This function is called GetAssemblySearchPaths and it was added a fair number of months ago. By rights, Rhino5 installations from that time (and before) should no longer be valid as they will have expired. Judging by how few people respond after we tell them to update Rhino5 to fix this, we assume that most of those installations were cracked versions of Rhino5.

I suppose it is possible through some weird installer fluke/bug that Rhino was updated properly while the SDK wasn't (technically, the error above means that Grasshopper is using an old RhinoCommon.dll). Uninstalling/Reinstalling Rhino5 will fix this, however I'm sure Brian Gillespie would like to know about this problem as it might cause other/more problems in the future. So if your Rhino5 installation is legit and has been updating, please email Brian (brian@mcneel.com) explaining that you somehow ended up with an out-of-date version of rhinocommon.dll
