Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

can you open a file in another program and save that file as a filetype all from a vb script in grasshopper

hi,

I am exporting obj files from gh to run in another piece of software called limitstate, however, limitstate doesnt like the way my obj files from grasshopper are written so i am fist opening my obj files in a program called meshlab and saving them again as an obj file.

Assuming i have already exported my obj filed from grasshopper, i was wondering whether there was a way to open my obj file with the program grasshopper, then save is as an obj in another file location all using a VB script written in a grasshopper component.

I am not sure if it is possible at all but if so how should i go about it....tutorials, commands i should use, precedent examples....?

thanks

Hi Ken,

Did you try to play with the options for export as .obj in Rhino/Grasshopper? You may be able to export an .obj file that works fine in limitstate?

PS: I know I didn't reply to your question but just as a side note.

i did but i wouldnt really know what to change..... anyway. il have a go again but do you know if what i was asking is possible at all?

Hi Ken,

To see the differences between the .obj files just open them in a text editor. It should be easy to pick the difference(s) for the same geometry.

I think it should be possible as far as you can open and control the other program from the command line.
