Camouflage patterning from a grid

Does anyone have experience or a starting point for wanting to deform a grid based layout into a camouflage patterning? 

I want to try and create a pattern that could evolve from a distorted grid and then used to color in a camouflage way.

So far, I've just been able to manipulate grids and distort them concentrically based on points...

Any Help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
