algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi everyone,
I cant seem to work out Spacial deform.. as the control point dont seem to be treated as such. When translated through vectors, they simply deform the base geometry.
What I am trying to do is basically translate and deform an object at the same time, the way it could be done on rhino by using cage edit.
Help would be greatly appreciated!!! thanks
Phil

Spatial deform doesn't work like cage edit.
Perhaps others have gotten further, but spatial deform acts in its own way:

Maybe you should look into morph box type transformations...
Has anyone gotten any further with the whole "Why does spatial deform work kind of, but not exactly like, cage edit?" issue? I've set up a file with the same deformation syntax used in a spatial deform (Gh) vs. a cage edit (Rhino), and they're remarkably similar. The critical difference is that deformed surface edges begin to self-intersect in a spatial deform, whereas the same deformation syntax done manually with a cage edit produces very clean geometry. I haven't looked at falloff equations at this point so perhaps some answers lay there.
This image shows my original objects:
This image shows the same deformation syntax being used as a spatial deform in Grasshopper (top row) and manually as a cage edit in Rhino (bottom row):
Here's an up-close shot of the aforementioned self-intersections that occur when using the Grasshopper spatial deform component:
If anyone has any insight please let me know. Not an urgent issue - just curious.
