algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi All,

I'm interested in opinions and ideas for an animal name for StructDrawRhino.

I quite like BullAnt.  It's Australian (Wikipedia mentions they are also in New Caledonia).  Ants are strong, work hard in a colony etc, so there are a few synergies I like.

Not everyone knows what a BullAnt is (but I didn't realize a Bongo was an animal for a long time), I prefer a two syllable description rather than just ant.

So, please post any thoughts or opinions.  The StructDrawRhino plug-in is now much more computational geometry based (for all sorts of designs) rather than strictly Architecture and Structure.

Tom (of [UTO] ) created a great graphic icon that I've used for this group.

Cheers,

Jon

Hi Jon, thanks for inviting.

I'd love Spider, or some spider-related name (Tarantula sounds cool as well). I like the image of it with such an explicit and clear structural look (just the way ants look, but bigger, more slender...)

Cheers!

Spider is good since geometry gym deals with networks :)
Termites are better structural designers. Their feats are astounding. Spiders are experts at tension structures. I saw a kola in my garden on a thin top branch balancing so well that I thought he knows his structures too - he was betting his life on it.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I really appreciate the ideas. I'll keep thinking about it, the only hesitation is the negative impressions associated with spiders and termites. I think of the furniture taken to by termites. Of course, any Australian that's been bitten by a bullant might have a similar association....

There's another spider in particular that's an Australian icon, the Redback.
If I am Australian, I would name it Boomerang , just to be different-who sais it has to be an animal :) At least its a simple and usefull killing tool...just kidding :)
Ants and spiders are good associations for structures-Redback sounds good to me (you will have nice motive for icons)-I dont mind its a deadly spider...
Hi Jon, if I look at a picture of a bull ant the little ant looks quite aggressive. I would go for a more positive association but similar productive animal like the bee / apoidea.

Cheers, Wieland
How about Giraffe ?

hi jon, how about Diatom? They are beautiful creatures and their skeletons inspire all kinds of exotic geometry.
Hi Jon,

I like the name BullAnt, because it sounds like something that Salamander could eat for breakfast... ;)
Salamanders eat bullants for breakfast?

My research suggests that Bullants are the reason Salamder is not found in Australia ;-) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salamander#Distribution (or are Salamanders the reasons bullants aren't found outside of Australia.....)
I find geckos really interesting (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gecko). Their foots help them climb anything, even the ceiling. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Gecko_foot_on_glass.JPG)
