Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I am pretty new to Grasshopper, but overall an excellent Rhino modeler. Right now I am focusing on Gridshells and Buckydomes.

I am looking for good Grasshopper examples to start with about Geodesic domes.

Typical Buckminster Fuller Domes, up to Grimshaw eden Domes.

Any help or good advices are always welcome.

Are you looking to code this or utilize it? I've implemented some geodesic domes in StructDrawRhino, http://geometrygym.blogspot.com/2010/03/structdrawrhino-grasshopper... which might be one reference you might test.

Cheers,

Jon
HI Jon,
this looks great, so I assume I have to install StructDraw, ahh which I have already... hm 1 day license left :-) ok will give it a try.

Is there also a version of a triangulatet sphere?
I think the license warning might be one day short, so you have twice as much time (ie 2 days).

Email me and I'll extend. If you turn bucky ball option to false, it should produce triangle faces.
Great Jon, thanks for the offer. Will email you regarding license.

Just two clicks and here we go, also with your offset tool. nice.

just discovered the minimal surface tool, but not sure how to handle it. can it to complex membranes?
till now I used Rutten's script

Acidnoid,

Can you send me the link to Rutten's script shown in this image?

Thanks

Do you mean the relax nurbs and relax mesh scripts?

EDIT: they are RhinoScripts and can be downloaded from here: http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/minimal-surfaces?commentI...

I mean the Grasshopper definition that generated the image "screenshot.jpg".

Acidnoid can confirm, but that image was referring to the StructDrawRhino components.  The script he is referring to seems to be David Ruttens minimal surface which is mesh relaxation routines.

http://www.grasshopper3d.com/group/geometrygym/forum/topics/install... if you wish to test the StructDrawRhino plugin.

Before running the mesh relaxation routine, isn't there a definition to generate that dome?

I don't think mesh relaxation was run on this, simply two sdr components, a geodesic dome and the polygon fillet routine.  I've attached it.  If you search the newsgroup, others have posted definitions using native grasshopper components if you don't want a plugin solution.

Hi, Jon is right...

I used the demo of  StructDrawRhino. Not sure anymore how I created the sphere, maybe simple spehere and rhino command rebuild.... or there was a basic def. regarding the bucky dome.. so that all triangles where equal.

For a square or whatever patter just use panneling tools done

but Jon answered also your question already
