algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hey Everyone,
First off I just want to thank all the questioners and everyone that has answered questions, as a SUPER beginner I really appreciate this community and having lots of things to read through.
Although I see now how over my head I am. Hopefully with time I will be able to help others.
I just started experimenting with Grasshopper two days ago. I would like to take a toy I designed and re-create it with a skeletal mesh.
As a super beginner it would be wonderful if any of you experts could direct me to some MUST-reads so I can increase my knowledge.
To other novices I found this intro guide helpful
and this intro video was helpful too.
Special thank you to everyone in this thread on creating a Skeletal Mesh I am trying to apply SkeletalM grasshopper files to my problem.
Please don't hesitate to offer any critique:
This is a picture of my toy:
Here is a picture of where I am:
Here is a picture of what I understand:
This is my first post on here, so feel free to help me make it better and ask any questions.
Ultimately my goal is to create a voronoi-like structure that can attach to my exisiting wood shapes.
I created the basic form as a polysurface and then in GH i used that as my Brep. The idea i had was to use the Brep in conjunction with the populate3D. The initial idea would be that I could create points within the Brep to use for the Voronoi volume command.
The first problem I ran in to was that the populate3D command created points outside my brep. I see how this is a problem, but...
How do I create more specific parameters?

I believe Point in Brep component could help you cull the points that are not inside the Brep. (the output is booleans, true if the point is inside the brep) and then continue with these points or combine these points with points generated from populate geometry component that generates point "on" the geometry.
i don't have access to grasshopper at the moment.
best

Thanks for idea Alex!
I don't see the "point in Brep" component in my grasshopper and it didn't appear when I tried searching for it via typing... Is it an addon?
it is in surface/utitlities.
gh version 0.9.00.70

Thank you so much Alex,
The inside component really shined a light on the process for me. Then I also found this helpful script on creating points in an arbitrary shape
Now points are inside the brep but the voronoi still ignores the brep's negative space.. thoughts?
Also.. What is the red text box that was underneath your component on your screenshot? Does it come from an add-on? or just GH for Rhino 5
the solid intersection component does exactly what you are after.
the red text box is the profiler widget. you can find it in display menu/canvas widgets/profiler.
cheers

Thanks for your help Alex!!!!
SO now I have been able to understand how to generate curves from the exploded brep intersection. Check it out!
Now all that remains is turning the curves in to a skeletal mesh.. Thoughts?
I am trying to figure out how to apply the skeletalMbetter.gh that was created by here by Mateusz Zwierzycki, Perhaps I will send him a message.
Thanks for the tip on the profiler widget
you need the exoskeleton and the topologizer components

please study these threads and also the link you posted earlier. i believe with only two days of grasshopper experience these are a bit advanced topics. so you could benefit from some more tutorials and practice and then revisit the topic in question.
