algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Good morning!

The project in question in a feature wall by Zaha Hadid Architects for Italian designers Citco (I’ve attached an image). I’m trying to replicate some of the techniques but obviously it was developed by a crack team of specialists!

I’ve attached my current workings although they’re rudimental and experimental. I’m seeking advice and if anyone could offer suggestions as to how they believe this design was developed? Box Morph, Weaving, Interpolated Mesh..

What it is I’m trying to replicate is a repetitive woven pattern whereby the weave amplitude fades into surface corners then becomes wider on straighter sections.  

I’ve also internalized a target surface that I hope to use once I’ve worked out the logic on a simpler surface.

You have done some good job, there are many way to do that but I propose you that to generate the same thing as this :

First, you need a rectangle meshed with quads, It must be deformed. It could also be a surface with UV acting as the edges of the mesh. 

For the pattern it seems to be always the same. For that I'd prefer mesh because it will allow after the box morph to join th mesh, do some smoothing (Catmull & Clark). 

The difference in height seems to be a "classical" attractor.

I propose you something like that:

I internalize meshes.

First you need an image in greyscale for the scale or you patterns. 

Put this image in Rhino as a picture frame. Draw a rectangle around this image using rectangle component in GH.

On this image put a mesh with quad mesh, I used Plane from Polygon Mesh Primitives from Rhino. Choose the number of cells you want. You will use it to deform your pattern in XY

Use also plane to draw your tiles. Beware you must have symetry on lateral edges and top/bottom edges. So moves the edges control point with caution.

I believe Your suggestion and definition are exactally what I'm looking for and I'll make a start re-appropriating it. It's a really clean way of achieve the result which I had not considered with the picture frame. Your personal work with mesh modelling and box morphs is also excellent! 

I was in the middle of trying another mesh method with interpolations which I'll share albeit it a very dirty approach!

Waouh your last definition seems quite complex!

With the approach I propose, the main difficulty is the tile, as it is mesh you have to imagine what it will become after smoothing. It must be similar to sub-d in tools like 3ds Max ... 

For the wall you could surely use some tools like attractor ... to deform the mesh in order to make the wave, swirl ...
