Blockify (3D Pixelate) a geometry to generate a sculpture of blocks

I am looking for a way to :

1. Take a geometry

2. Generate a set of cubes (of a set dimension) that will make up the shape of the geometry

3. Generate the faces of the outside of all these cubes

4. Generate teeth for all the faces, to join faces.

5. Layout Flat for printing.

In other works I want to 3D pixelate (cubify/blockify) a geometry and generate the pieces to make the shell of this group of blocks and lay it out to print on a laser, or shopbot, or plasma cutter for the purpose of making a sculpture.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated and noted.

Thanks

Here's a start - checking a 3d grid for inclusion:

Booleaning them all together would be pretty slow though.

I can't wait to get the time to actually check out the grasshopper file. promising start. thanks for the quick reply. will check back tonight after work.
do you really need cubes? have you tried pepakura program? it will triangulate, maybe it is not what you want.

the idea with cubes was to be able to create sculpture with only right angles. I hope ( with the communities help) to develop a system to create sculpture using cube faces joined by finger joints.
