Best fit ellipse from a set of 3d or 2d data points

Does any one have any code that will allow selection as input from Rhino of a set of points (a 3d set) or a 2d set that approximate an ellipse and then have the code that will provide a best fit ellipse?

Hi Chipping, bit of a late response but here is how I do this. You'll probably get a warning for a missing plugin - just ignore that - I added a VB component that does the same thing. Hope this helps.

Hi Pieter,

I've found that this VB script seems to work only on some nurbs curves, and when the input curves are very detailed it seems to stop working.

I've attached an example with more detailed curves to start with that you can simplify to see what I mean. Why is this the case?
