When baking via the context menu you have access to further functionality that is not available from either the radial menu or the Solution Menu. i.e. Layer selection, Grouping etc. It's this that is causing the bug in "some" components.

Sometimes (not with Text) if you get a failure you can try again with the group option ticked and it will work. (not always)

You're asking the wrong guy.

This bug got reported way, way back and has been mentioned numerous times since, so I doubt it will be addressed in the next release.
