Bake large amount of geometry to different layers?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a better way to specify layer destinations for baked geometry. The idea would be to direct different data paths to different layers, and to have it happen simultaneously. I can go in and manually set to each sequential tree branch, for example (using a panel plugged in to the lunchbox bake component) - but that's pretty tedious. I'm hoping to specify 30-40 separate layer destinations at a time - linked to different groups of geometry. Any ideas for a better approach?

Thanks!

Can you provide a little more info? It sounds like you want to do something a little trickier than assigning a layer to each branch of data but I couldn't figure out exactly what that is.

Hi Derin,

That is actually exactly what I'm trying to do - I might be making it sound more complicated than it is! Perhaps I'm missing something? The big thing is that I don't want to have to go in and bake each layer separately because of the volume of geometry and layers involved. I'm attaching a screenshot of grasshopper as well as rhino so you get the idea... thanks!

Hi Jane, I only saw your first image but hopefully I understood what you're trying to do.

You need to create a data tree of layer names that is parallel to the data structure of the geometry tree. You only need one name per path-- the lunchbox component will automatically duplicate the layer name for every item in the path.

To take it a little further, you may want to check out the Elefront plug-in which has some very useful extended functionality like hierarchical layer names, and a "bake name" that lets you overwrite the geometry in Rhino without having to select and delete everything first.

Ah, this is great - I didn't realize that you could create a data tree of layer names - but that makes perfect sense. I think this is what I was looking for. Thank you!!
