Grasshopper data items do not support custom properties such as layer, name, colour, dash-pattern, group and so on.

Elefront plugin have an advance bake component and an "attribute" component that allows you to bake objects with a specific name on a specific layer (it respects rhino's "layer::sublayer" syntax).

Here is a python script that groups all the objects with the same name :

edit : Grasshopper do handle user object? (with geometry cache, yesterday discovery in the "big file" thread); is there a way to expand that to the name of the object?

I meant "userText" ... As for the grouping, it can be done in python afterward but it takes time to process (maybe my code is not well optimised too)
