Array curves normal to surface, similar to CNR

Im really sorry if this has been asked before or if the answer is super simple but ive been seaching for weeks.

Using the CNR node, i can array circles across a surface with the normals of the surface giving the circles orientation.

Is there are way I can do just that with any closed sketch. I need to create a speaker grill on a (doublely curved) surface using hexagons and in future using a custom closed curve, what would be the best way to do this?
