Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Are names in Grasshopper the same as RhinoCommon/source code?

Hi

Does anyone know if either names or Rhino or Grasshopper are exact translations of the software source code (I assumed that is RhinoCommon). For example "Split" command in Rhino or "Shatter" component in Grasshopper (or "PlanarSrf" and "Boundary Surface").

Not even close. Rhinocommon is a thick but finite jungle of hundreds of commands that often have clusters of similar commands with more or less fine settings to input. A few are so fine in detail they require a Windows .NET data structure as input since McNeel hasn't yet created a higher level command version.

There's also the odd package called Rhinoscript that is really a Python library that calls Rhinocommon with its own command structure. I'd just avoid it in how you think about Rhino/Grasshopper.

Most of the Grasshopper stuff that involves 3D modeling rather than math is contained in the smaller group Rhino.Geometry in the Rhinocommon reference.

A few Rhino commands are big feature programs themselves that lack much Rhinocommon access to their inner functionality.

Grasshopper itself often uses rather different names for things, such as the twist box morph related commands that Rhinocommon can be esoteric about.
