algorithmic modeling for Rhino
I was just looking at this site:
http://hackaday.com/2011/09/14/making-better-cnc-halftone-pictures/
Which led me to this site:
http://www.interlam-design.com/Mirage_ProductList.cfm
Which then led me to this:
http://www.joakimlinde.se/java/ReactionDiffusion/
Has anyone delved into this yet? If not how would you start?
thanks in advance?

The MilkDrop plugin for Winamp has some amazing reaction-diffusion filters. They're sort of hard to find amongst the hundreds of presets, but they're well worth it (the filters were written mostly by Ryan Geiss, same author as Milkdrop).
MilkDrop runs on a pixel-grid (well, sort of) so it's a discrete algorithm, not a geometric one.

Might be doable.
Here are a few similar projects by Nervous System using reaction-diffusion.
