algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hey everyone. I'm new to the site and relatively new to grasshopper, but consider myself to have an understanding of basic concepts and the logic behind the program. I am an architecture student and working on designing a museum about vertical movement and urban perspective. Within this museum, the spaces themselves and their relationship to perspective are the main features. After reading Michel de Certeau's "Walking in the City" and thinking about what the project calls for, I have chosen to investigate anamorphosis and anamorphic projection within the spaces for this museum. I have found some resources here on this site, but I was wondering if anyone could provide any further insight on how to accomplish such spatial trickery. I've attached a link to an example from UNStudio of what I am trying to achieve. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rich

Hi Rich -
A while ago I published a definition that plays around a bit with anamorphosis in GH - it's available for download here: http://heumanndesigntech.wordpress.com/2010/03/23/anamorphosis-in-gh/
The basic concept for any sort of anamorphic study is to define a single view point and a "virtual image" (undistorted) that you want your viewer to see. If you connect any point on the image with the view point, you get a line, and any movement of the virtual image along that line will preserve the appearance of the image from that single specific view point.
In my definition the "virtual image" is not a single planar image but a 3d object in space, defined as a mesh. I connect the view point to the vertices of the mesh, and then displace the vertices of the mesh along those lines.
If you can post a more detailed description of what you are attempting to accomplish with anamorphosis then perhaps I can give more specific suggestions.
P.S. another architecture project that makes a really beautiful use of anamorphosis is the Tel Aviv Museum of Art by Preston Scott Cohen
Hope that's helpful!
