algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi everyone,
me again, sorry!
I have found quite a lot information on offsetting 3D curves here on the forum, but I still can't seem to find a good workaround for this one. Attached you can find quite a large part of the definition, so you can see how the curves are scripted (different fillet at different parts). (I apologize if parts look amateuristic, still learning here!)
So....I want to offset the front and back curve in a downward direction, like the image (but here I've moved them). Any ideas?
I also tried offsetting the curved surface, but when I try to do this in either Rhino or Grasshopper, my computer crashes...
Thanks again, all of you, for your help!

Hi Anja,
I think using OffsetSrf that crashes your machine is probably the way to do it (your problem could have something to do with the tight radii in your screen-shot). Have you tried breaking the shape up into smaller sections to see if that helps?
As an alternative, imagine extruding a surface in Z direction that passes through your curve, then use OffsetCrvOnSrf command and offset your curve onto the surface either +/- Z direction.
This command is pretty memory hungry too, so try a simple example first.
Best,
David.
David; I don't seem to get this working either? It does not crash, Rhino just refuses to offset it. I've made the surface by extruding the curve downwards, so it should be completely aligned with the curve I'd like to offset.
Lucas; thanks, that works for most parts of the curve! I'll see if I can fix the parts where it goes wrong!
