Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi All,

I am currently working with Grasshopper, Geco and Galapagos to produce an environmentally optimised building form, based on Solar Gain, Day light factor and aerodynamic control.

I wish to use wind force data to adapt the form of the building, lessing the effect of high wind loads on external areas and capturing some for natural ventilation.

are there any existing scripts or ways of achieving this?

Any help would be appreciated

Man...aerodynamics is a really complicated science...my brothers is aeronautical engineer and always says to me that is not a easy thing deal with air pressure, flow, movement, etc. calculus.

A guy in the forum has developed a plugin to import particles simulations from maya...but you need to know how to make fluids simulations in Maya (is not very complicated at basic level).

Best Regards.

Hi Ángel,

I guess I need to get my teeth into Maya then, I was hoping to keep it all native though

Thanks

Luke

Hi luke,

As a yacht designer I would be glad if it were possible. Truth is you can't predict anything without tunnel experiments. You can find virtual tunnel softwares but they're all lmited in some way, and anyway the raw data is chinese, you'll need a specialst after all.

I've been involved in such a study a few months ago with the eiffel wind tunnel in paris for a stadium.

They used software computation to determine the local windrose influenced by the terrain (20km around I think!),

Then they picked a few loading cases from that and test a physical model in the tunnel.

I was in charge of the model and they made  lot of prescriptions about it, because some details do matter much more than you'd think.

To me the best way si to use well known systems, or pay a dozen ingeneers for three months.
