Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi all,

I am new to grasshopper and need some guidance!

I am creating a large city in rhino. I thought I could try out grasshopper to easily add detail to the buildings, such as windows.

I wanted to create a window system that I can apply to any planar surface. The idea is the punch openings (with frames) through a surface at intervals that I can control.

Could someone please advise me on how to go about this, thanks heaps!

hi i am also new but i think it is possible to be done.

you model it just like step by step but you have to change comads from rhino to components:)

ok maybe dividing is little different:) but after few you tube tutorials its easy:)

if you want to control interval separately on each surfaces than you will end with enormous noumber of sliders for intervals. i would think about incorporating random component and tanks to that windows would be arrange different on different surfaces so it would be more organic but you will not have 100% of control of it just a idea but for very big model should work

you can also do simple system apply it to sufrace bake and go to nex surface.

then you have just few sliders but you dont have contol on geometry in gh after you bake.

hope that help some how

Windows are located by their lower left corner.  A different location might be more appropriate for what you want to do...a starting point in any case.  I find the most difficult part of Grasshopper is list manipulation and this definition probably reflects my struggle with that process. Keep in mind then that there may be simpler ways to do this.
