about 'variable expression'

does variable expression even exist in 0.50099? (- would be in Logic > Script > fxⁿ).

If you are using a locked computer (non administrator rights), you can install the latest version and drag / drop from your My Documents folder to your Rhino viewport window - make sure grasshopper is NOT loaded within the Rhino session before doing so.
