algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for some help to create point cloud density diagrams on a 2D plane. I have found something similar on the foruc but I cant seem to recreate the script properly!

Basically I want to have a 2d surface where its brighter in the areas that there are more points (some points are also "over each other"). I've attached the script Im currnetly working with, as well as some examples of what I'm looking to achieve. Hope someone can help!

I'm still quite new to grasshopper, so sorry if this seems really basic.. but im struggling to get the grasshopper scripts to interact with the points I've got on rhino. See picture below....

You can see there are a range of layers with multiple surfaces on, with each layer a different colour. I want to get a density map for each of them with the colour of the density map relating to the colour of the layer. e.g. "serviced apartments" would have a bright yellow where there are lots of points, and a pale yellow where there are none.

I was also looking to clip the map to the outline of iceland, but I can do this in Photoshop instead if its to tricky to achive in grasshopper!

try these suggestions...

the sampling could be done slightly more efficiently for the colours... for xample you can sample the field at any point location, which means if you adjust the samples instead to only be from within the country boundary, you can get a better resolution image without it calculating a load of black. i.e 7000 points calculated within the study area rather than anywhere.

I'll work up an example and then you can apply it, and learn from it for your needs. Also since the display does support transparency you can work in layers without needing to use photoshop to tidy it up.

Couldn't quite get to work the transparency that I had in mind. Maybe to do with graphics card cutting out when too many shapes have transparency. 

Everything else is slightly faster though. You end up with a pointillist stylisation which you could take to photoshop and blur or increase the number of dots to whatever your computer can handle.

You can always cull any points with a value equal to black before sending to the geometry preview component but its probably easier to get a series of images and blend in photoshop if you're planning on creating a composite.

The transparent display only seems to work when I turn on the country shape. ( I think its graphics card related so find attached as your computer might be better than the one I have).

and if you do need to display the country shape for transparency to work, you can change the colour and transparency of grasshopper3Dobjects in the grasshopper settings so that it isn't red.

(Just remember to turn it back on again for your next session of grasshopper.)

I spent all day yesterday trying to achieve this was bascially no success! Your images look super cool on the black background, sadly my whole theme is white so ive changed the colours to get them to match with the rest of my work and its looking great! I've just got one last question for you...

How do I get this out of rhino / grasshopper?

I've tried baking but that just gives me the 7000 points and they dont seem to render / print? Is there a special grasshopper renderer or anything I need to use? PNG or PDF format is what I need so I can take the results into InDesign (I'm going to do the different layers as different images :) )
